Board member Sarah Teichmeier (Ravenna) helped attendees register for the second YAB scholarship event on Sunday, November 4th in Kearney.

High school students from across Central Nebraska came together on Sunday, November 4th for the second Buffalo County Youth Advisory Board (YAB) scholarship event, “Show Me the Money.”
Attendees sat in on workshops and seminars about how to fill out the FAFSA, apply for scholarships, and build their resume. There was also plenty of time to visit the booths of universities from across the state who were there to answer questions and share information about their schools.
“Attending workshops like this is very important,” said Dr. Matthew Mims. “Filling out the scholarships does not become a priority until you get the bill and by then the application dates have passed. We are happy to offer this workshop so that freshmen and sophomores can start to plan for the future while juniors and seniors begin to take action.”

YAB members David Mueller, Jenna Martin, Molly Klinginsmith and Clayton Stoppkotte shared their personal tips about resumes and applying for scholarships in a Student/Parent Panel facilitated by Denise Zwiener.

All students who attended were entered to win scholarships from Buffalo County Community Partners; two $100 scholarships were given away, one to an underclassman and one to a senior.
This event was sponsored by Buffalo County Community Partners, Buffalo County YAB, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Nebraska Counseling Association, Nebraska Professional School Counselors, and Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honor Society.

Missed the workshop this year? YAB plans to host the event again next fall so be watching for it! Visit www.bcyab.org for more.
