Current YAB members discuss the new member interview process at the July YAB meeting.

The Buffalo County Youth Advisory Board is pleased to welcome 13 new members for the 2014-15 academic year. Members were selected from nearly 50 applicants on the basis of their applications and personal interviews.

From Amherst, sophomore Hannah Williams, junior Marissa Kegley, and senior Sydney Taubenheim will join the board. New from Elm Creek will be 8th grader Allison Bauer. Sophomores Gabriela Montanez and Autumn Smith will be joining the group from Gibbon. Brittany Zimmerman, a sophomore from Kearney High, will be added, along with Annie Trettel, a freshman from Kearney Catholic. From Ravenna, freshman Jaden Lewandowski, sophomore Darius Flessner, and junior Holly Dethlefs will join the board. Jake Senff, a senior from Shelton, will be new to the group, along with Thomas Schwarz, a sophomore from Sumner-Eddyville-Miller.

The new board members will be involved in planning YAB-sponsored events, including this year’s Show Me The Money Scholarship and Financial Aid Workshop, to be held at UNK on September 28, and the Nebraska Youth Academy for Democracy, planned for October 26 at Kearney High School.

The Buffalo County Youth Advisory Board is a program that recognizes young people as valuable resources in our community and empowers them as equal partners in learning about issues and conducting projects that have a positive impact. Governed jointly by youth and adults, and supported by local funders, YAB plans and implements youth-initiated and youth-led community projects that contribute to the quality of life and good health of the people of Buffalo County.
