From Left to Right: Dawn, Becky, and Wanda.

Dawn Holbein, Wanda Fedorchik, and Becky Squiers join the Buffalo County Community Partners staff team to support building a healthier community.

Holbein is taking the role of Executive Assistant. She comes to Community Partners with a great background of working with the United Way in Kearney and Lexington for four years. This organization is going to thrive with someone who has prior experience working in a non-profit setting. Dawn’s experience in accounting is an amazing asset to our office,” said Denise Zwiener, Executive Director of Community Partners.

Holbein said about taking the position, “helping others has always been a passion of mine.  I’m so excited to be able to continue to do that via accounting and grant management, in the Executive Assistant position. It’s truly an honor to work for an enduring organization that is progressive in its efforts to better all aspects of health in Buffalo County.”

The Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator position was filled by Fedorchik. Previously she served with South Central Behavioral Services. Fedorchik said, “I’m excited to serve in this role because I have not worked on the prevention side of the spectrum before. This is a new experience and I am eager to learn.” Fedorchik will be overseeing the Positive Pressure coalition.

The Positive Pressure coalition has had a great impact in the community. The most notable recent activity was their participation in the Cruise Nite Be Safe Be Smart campaign; since its formation, the group has empowered community stakeholders to take a stand on the negative behaviors that had been associated with after-Cruise Nite. As a result of the Be Safe, Be Smart campaign, law enforcement proposed an open container policy to city council which would make it illegal to possess an open container of alcohol in city right of way or on public property. This is just one of the many accomplishments that the group has had in making a positive change in our community.

Fedorchik said, “This coalition has made great progress in the community, and I am excited to keep expanding upon the success they have had, and look at new opportunities for substance abuse prevention.”

Squiers has joined the Buffalo County Community Partners staff as the Be Well Buffalo County Collaborative Coordinator. Becky brings her education and expertise to the table to assist the collaborative in seeking their vision to build a culture of well-living where community support leads to healthy lifestyle changes.

“Being from Kearney, I have a desire to help it reach its full potential in being a healthy community,” Squiers said. “I am excited to bring my knowledge from schooling and previous job to help this collaborative really develop an action plan.”

Squiers is no stranger to the public health field. She received her masters of Public Health from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a bachelor degree in Biology and Communication from Rockhurst University. Squiers has been working for the last two years at Total Wellness a national wellness company in Omaha, NE.

“Our new employees bring many strengths, experiences and perspectives to the office and the work we do in Buffalo County. I am excited for them to be on board and help us gain momentum into the new year,” said Zwiener.
