Lead in Children
GOAL: Reduce the percent of children aged 1-5 years with blood lead levels (BLLs) > 9ug/dL.
Baseline: 6.2% (9 children) of Buffalo County children tested (146 children tested) aged 1-5 years reported with BLLs > 9ug/dL (Source: Meridell Funk, 1996-1997 NHHSS Data)
Target: 0% BLLs
Rationale:
Although considerable progress has been made in reducing BLLs in the Nation’s children, lead poising remains a preventable environmental problem in the United States culturally and linguistically appropriate information is needed alerting persons to the dangers of lead poisonings.
