Youth Advisory Board Congratulates Seniors
Congratulations to all the seniors on the Buffalo County Youth Advisory Board who are graduating in May! Zane Petersen (Amherst), Dalton Meier (Elm Creek), Saul Aguilar (Gibbon), Jack Anderson, Hannah Loseke, Isabel Thalken and Spencer Lowe (Kearney), Adam Ripp, Armando Tapia and Kaden Zwiener (Pleasanton), Michael Steele (Ravenna), Lance English and Andrey Gallegos (Sumner-Eddyville-Miller), and Mariah Henninger (Shelton).
Have a student interested in making a difference in their community? YAB is still recruiting new members for the 2012-2013 school year. Students from all the Buffalo County Schools, grade 7-12 are encouraged to apply. Applications are available now at the Community Partners and YAB web sites (bcchp.org and bcyab.org). Remembering Alvie Payne
Community Partners would like to take a moment to remember a friend of Kearney, Alvie Payne. Payne died on Saturday, April 7th at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Village in Kearney.
As a business man, Payne devoted much of his time and energy to helping develop and promote the growth of the town he loved. He served as the president of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce, Kearney State College Foundation Board, Nebraska State Retail Merchants Association, Payne Enterprises, in addition to being involved in other groups.
Payne was a donor to Buffalo County Community Partners and his involvement and support was greatly appreciated.

Join the Movement-Unplug Encourages Screen-Free Week
Activate Buffalo County, Kearney Public Schools, University of Nebraska at Kearney and Kearney Parks and Recreation want to encourage Buffalo County communities to make the choice to Unplug and be active during Screen-Free Week. Read a book, play a board game, take a walk or bike ride, or visit a museum. There are so many ways to be active, physically and mentally, and what better time to try than during National Screen-Free week!

Juvenile Services Offers New Diversion Program
Buffalo County now has a new diversion program available through the County Attorney’s Office. The Buffalo County Alcohol Accountability Program has been started for young adults ages 18-20 who have received a Minor in Possession or Minor in Possession/Consumption (MIP and MIP/C) citation. The goal is to involved them in meaningful ways throughout the community and connect them to positive opportunities that build on their strengths, develop their social skills and strengthen their relationships with the local community.
To date there have been approximately fifty referrals to the Alcohol Accountability program and forty initial intake assessments have been completed. These forty individuals are now working on their accountability requirements, which vary depending on the individual situations and citations.
This program is funded by the Positive Pressure Coalition SPF-SIG grant.
Community Partners Welcomes New Board Members
Buffalo County Community Partners would like to introduce their newest board members: Andrea Rabe, APRN at Central Health Services, Bob Huddleston, Market President at Wells Fargo, Terry Krohn, Director of Two Rivers Public Health Department and Elnida Chandler, Site Manager of Crossroads Center Rescue Mission.
“The impact our organization has in the community is leveraged by the people who choose to serve on the Board of Directors,” said Denise Zwiener, Executive Director. “We are pleased to have a great group of new board members joining us in 2012. We look forward to the new relations we will build and impact that we will have together in building a healthier Buffalo County.”

Community Partners Announces 2012 Campaign Chairs
Buffalo County Community Partners is proud to announce that their 2012 Annual Fund Campaign will be led by co-chairs Greg Shea and Dick Beechner, with the assistance of honorary chair Jackie Rosenlof.
Buffalo County Community Partners is launching their 2012 Annual Fund Campaign to raise $140,000 to better ELEVATE issues, ENGAGE people, EMPOWER youth and EVALUATE progress towards building a healthier Buffalo County.

Today, 1,000 volunteers and 200 organizations are working together to create positive change in their community. These volunteers are making 450,000 personal contacts annually. Every $1.00 donated to Buffalo County Community Partners is matched by $5.00 in grant funding. Our local donors are leveraging significant change in Buffalo County.
