Pictures from artists all over Buffalo County were celebrated at our Picturing Peace Reception on September 21st, International Peace Day. Employees from the SAFE Center were our community judges and picked the top five photos in different categories: people representing peace, best expression of peace, most original, animals representing peace, and nature at peace.
Ruth Behlmann won the animals in peace category. She said the photo was for the late Don Welch. He used to write poems, and she said she took this picture for the last poem he wrote before he passed.

Dr. Steve Bennet was the runner-up in the animals category. Dr Bennet said, “I was watering one of my plants. This great praying mantis was on one of my flowers. I didn’t scare him away; he stayed. He was there for almost a week. The first day he lifted up his head and it was a perfect picture. Deep down inside I asked him to raise his head.”
