Alzheimer’s Disease Care Goal:
To create the capacity for 50 specially designated Alzheimer’s beds within Buffalo County by 2001. 1996 Baseline: No out of home facilities in Buffalo County designated to take care of people with probable Alzheimer’s Disease. 2001 Target: 50 units 2001 Status: 50 specially designated units for patients with Alzheimer’s Disease
- 1996: A Goal Work Group formed with representation from: Educational Service Unit 10, Alzheimer Association, Good Samaritan Health Systems, Area Agency on Aging, Kearney Interfaith Caregivers, Mt. Carmel, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Region III and Senior Hospitality Center.
- 1997: Completed an Asset Map.
- 1997: Mount Carmel opened 16 beds specifically designed for patients with Alzheimer’s Disease.
- 2000: Prairie View Gardens opened 28 beds. In 2001 reclassified 10 to assisted living. In 2002 current capacity is 18 units specifically designed for patients with Alzheimer’s Disease
- 2002: Ravenna Good Samaritan Center will open 16 beds specifically designed for patients with Alzheimer’s Disease.
BCCP Grant Funding Received — $35,000
- 1997: Special Care for Alzheimer’s Patients for Mt. Carmel Home: $10,000
- 2000: Alzheimer’s Units for Ravenna Good Samaritan Center: $20,000
- 2001: Ravenna Youth Activities with Alzheimer’s Patients at Good Samaritan Center: $5,000
