Kearney was named one of the 50 quarterfinalists in the America’s Best Communities competition and was given $50,000 to develop a community revitalization plan. Last month, they invited the Kearney residents to join at the Town Hall meetings to have a voice in innovative solutions for problems in the community. Over 100 residents provided input for the revitalization plan.

The plan must be submitted by November. In crafting a comprehensive revitalization plan for Kearney, America’s Best Communities leaders have identified manufacturing as one industry to support in order to facilitate growth of the city’s economy. The Executive committee is refining the initiative into a short term goal that is achievable if Kearney is selected as one of the 15 semifinalists to receive $100,000.

The team leading Kearney’s efforts in the national competition believes increased attention and support for developing skilled labor in manufacturing sectors will bolster the local economy and, in turn, help create jobs.
